Funding Support & Business Development

Planning for development and securing funding

For some types of projects we are able to provide advice and support in terms of business planning, development advice and assistance with winning funding. This mainly applies to Charities and Voluntary & Public Sector bodies and projects, who are looking to expand and improve services for their community or specific groups of people. This would include those involved in:

  • Education and Care provision.
  • Heritage and Cultural projects.
  • Health and Well being projects.
  • Food, Nutrition and Healthy eating related facilities.
  • Facilities providing Services to people with Learning Disabilities and Difficulties.
  • Young people’s projects around employment and skills.
  • Social enterprise and rural enterprise initiatives.

We are not able to raise funding for personal or domestic building projects.

Some examples of recent and current projects

Ruskin Mill College at Nailsworth in Gloucestershire: Farming and Horticulture, Food production and Rural Enterprise.

Glasshouse College at Stourbridge: Major redevelopment on the site of the former Royal Doulton crystal factory in Amblecote, the glass making district of Stourbridge.

Freeman College in Sheffield, supported by £1.75m of LSC Capital funding to refurbish and use this Grade II listed building (Sterling Works). Plus the associated Academy of Makers hosting craft businesses, the organic ‘Fusion Cafe’ and exhibition areas. £1m of Heritage Lottery and European Objective 1 funding. B4G did much of the restoration work in this Grade II* listed building (Butcher Works).

Park Attwood Clinic Redevelopment. Aspire & Transform undertook a business and organisational review, and assessment of the future prospects of the Clinic in Bewdley, Worcestershire. We then produced a new Business & Development Plan for the trustees and staff. This won the approval of The Unity Bank who will provide a significant loan for the project of refurbishing the existing buildings and expanding with new serves, more patients and some new facilities. Funding bids are now being made to a number of national charitable foundations. The developments are planned in a number of discrete and manageable phases.

Pennine Camphill Developments. A specialist residential facility on a former colliery site, outside Wakefield. We are helping them raise capital funding from a range of charitable foundations for the development of their new Rural Crafts Centre and Equestrian Centre.

Doncaster Deaf Trust Development. We are working with the Trust to attract funding and support for the redevelopment of their National Campus, including new residential accommodation, vocational workshops, a Sports Academy, and a Business Enterprise Centre.

Setting up the new Clervaux Trust and College in Darlington (Teeside) and Croft (North Yorkshire)

Career hope for school rejects in skills venture

Friday 30th January 2009
A NEW charity launched today aims to give a fresh start to Darlington teenagers who are not in education, training or employment. The Clervaux Trust has received £2.2m of Government funding to develop its work in teaching land skills and crafts at Clow Beck Centre, Croft on Tees.
The first group, aged 14 to 16, arrives on Monday. It comprises 13 young people who have all been excluded from schools in Darlington and attend an educational referral unit. As the project grows, the trust expects to work with other local authorities and schools throughout the North-East. A key part of the project will see the former Bishop’s House Restaurant in Coniscliffe Road, Darlington, turned into a café, bakery and sales outlet for organic foodstuffs produced by young people on Clow Beck’s 33 acres. They will also staff the café and bakery to gain recognised qualifications. The project is one of 12 piloting the Government’s new educational diplomas, which offer 14- to 19 year-olds alternatives to GCSEs and A-levels.
